Every so often something happens to remind you that, however bad you think things may be, at least we’re unlikely to be reduced to links in the food chain.
Before leaving for work one recent morning I looked out in the yard and found an odd gray patch. Looking more closely I found this:
Probably the handiwork of a raccoon, although it could have been a sharp-shinned hawk the day before. Had it been under a tree, I’d have guessed a hawk nabbed a pigeon.
But it wasn’t under a tree.
One minute, a pigeon. The next, breakfast.
I read once that only one in ten million fish does not die a violent death. I mention this in the hopes that, whatever troubles you might have in life, you feel better knowing that the odds of your suddenly becoming a meal are considerably better than if you were a fish, or even some poor pigeon.
That’s good to know. Maybe it will help me feel better about flying home. 😉
I think we may have been reduced to a link in the food chain. Everytime you encounter some news about the economy, consumers–aka humans, citizens, comrades–are not pulling their weight and keeping the line taut enough. Must buy more!
Yup, but then, they don’t have to worry about tax bills and mortgages and dentist appointments… 😉
Yep, that’s a day brightener, alright! *wink*
Gosh, even one of my goldfish was killed by another fish. There’s little safety for those poor things…of course, I have designs on a violent death for some crab in a week or two when they’re a little bigger. YUM.
Robin, I hope you arrived safe and sound.
Norwichrocker–doesn’t it make you feel better about mortgages, taxes, and dentist’s appointments? W2W, I guess
there is a consumer food chain, huh?
Cheryl & J, I think it brightens the equation immeasurably when the death of another means a meal for yourself … especially crab. *yum*
