I’ve been keeping an eye on this little tree during our morning dog walks. It’s in an abandoned motorhome park on the former naval air station, which military personnel, mostly retired I guess, used before they closed the base.

And as I mentioned earlier, every so often I felt and heard a buzzing presence. The tree has a hummingbird who guards his tree jealously; that’s him on his perch. (more…)

We’ve been in the process of converting our front yard from thirsty grass to drought resistant plants. Our tiny patch in front is separated into three parcels by sidewalk and driveway, and here’s part of the section we’ve tackled so far. The reddish blossoms at top are called kangaroo paws.

The nasturtiums are going nuts in our raised bed. We ought to pick the flowers more often to spice up our salads. At far right is our margarite (in shadow) and a very happy rosebush in the upper right corner.  We finally got the tomato plants in cages, and they’re pretty happy, so far. (The copper coil at lower left is for cooling beer when I brew.)

Our yard is blooming. I spent a bit of time with the camera last weekend, and will crop and post some of the results when I can. As an early taste, here are a couple blossoms from one of our rosebushes.
