Mixed in with the roses of my prior post is our blackberry bramble.
You can see a bumblebee at work in there.
We had the fence behind the bramble rebuilt a couple years ago, and Mrs. O was pretty upset with our neighbor’s contracter, who used pressure-treated wood. Back then, pressure-treated wood was treated with arsenic. (The process has changed since then.) We didn’t make them pull it out, however, and now I joke, when she picks the berries for me to use in smoothies (and I enjoy a lot of berry smoothies in late summer) that she’s serving me arsenic.
Plenty of blossoms in there, and even more buds — I’m going to be enjoying a lot of blackberry smoothies this summer!
these are really cool. especially the last one
Nicely done
You’re probably building up a nice tolerance to arsenic, with lots of small doses 🙂
Thanks, both of you. Trucie-woo-norwichrocker, are you sure arsenic is one of those tolerance-building toxins? Or do I just get enough of it that one day I hit the threshhold and keel over?
As far as I know, the insuranc policy is current …
No pie?
Very nice! Looks like you’ll have a fine harvest (hopefully without the arsenic!).
J, actually, sometimes she does use them in a pie, often mixed with another fruit. But for the most part the berries go in smoothies.
Robin, the blossoms are coming in thick now — should be a bumper crop.
