So, I’m sitting at a new desk at work. I don’t know how long I’ll be there, although the powers that be have moved my computer down to the new office, which is on the opposite corner of our block from where I used to work. It might be a matter of weeks, or months or even years. I might find out sometime before I retire.
Or I might not. Some things, in my mandarin work world, are determined not even in San Francisco, but in Sacramento. Let’s just say that there is a prominent politician who has appeared in Hollywood action movies who has a say in it, and leave it there.
In the meantime, I can show you a bit of my new view. I used to work in a new building on this block, but now I work in a much older building; neoclassical, I think. So my new office is actually an old office. If I lean over to one side of my desk and look out the window I can see SF’s City Hall.
But generally, the view from my desk looks more like this.
Still, it has a window I can actually open, and how rare is that in the modern steel and glass Bauhaus office world, any more?
There’s a lot of construction going on around here, so even with the window closed I hear the staccato of jackhammers and the frequent thumping, crashing, and pounding of construction equipment.
But it’s okay. I’m happy with the new work, and the new locale; and if the bureaucrats in Sacramento could resolve some issues, a lot of us will be given a new start.
I think I could deal with pretty much anything as long as I have a window and a view of a tree from my desk. Which I do 🙂
Windows are essential!
I am having window and view envy. Despite my lofty position (at least in my mind) I am stuck in an office with no window. I suppose I could raise a stink and displace one of my staff who has a window, but he’s way too nice of a guy.
Glad you’re settled in. It looks like you got a nice set-up there – close to BART, good restaurants and spitting distance from Gavin Newsom (take that as you will). 🙂
I don’t know if I’ve EVER had an office with a window that opened. I’ve had lovely views before, but no open windows. LOVELY. Enjoy it while you can.
I’d love to have a new office too. A window would be wonderful, but a boss who knew something useful would be much nicer.
Beautiful view–and the window opens? How lucky are you? First thing in the morning on the way to coffee pot I am opening all blinds and curtains (those with coverings at all). There is nothing better for the spirit than nature. Just don’t spend all your time staring out the window. 🙂
Yes, my neighbor does keep her window open — although, with all the pasing traffic, I’m not sure how “fresh” the air really is. Not to mention the noise, which is why my window is usually closed.
Brtan, good to hear from you. Keep the faith, with your numerical wizardry, I’m sure something will open up for you. J, you, too — my fingers are crossed for the both of you.
It is nice having a view, but the truth is I’m usually so focused with what’s on my desk that I’m not thinking about it. Still, every so often when it’s time to clear the head, I tell myself to take advantage of it, yes, while I can.
Nice view. Windows are important. I recently lost “my” office. The new team office windows face the windows of the library 15 feet away. Arggg.
