Drifting Loose

The boat first appeared in late spring. With the battered economy, perhaps its owner had abandoned it, and it had drifted into the boat ramp harbor, and there it sat, mired in the mud. I thought the angle was kind of arresting, so I took a few pictures of it.

 As I mentioned back here, a cat has joined our household–for the first time since our dear 20-year-old Millicent passed on, back on Groundhog’s Day in 2006. (I hope that, a la the Bill Murray movie of that name, Millicent has moved on to another of her lives.)

A few years ago, a friend and coworker of mine told us of a nice place to go for a walk up near Sonora, called Table mountain.  Table mountain is a mesa, and just below the ridgeline there is a nice trail, through a pasture.

We walked out along the bay shore this morning, enjoying the slanting dawn light rising over the east bay hills, casting long tree shadows across the open fields. I heard a splash to my right, and saw a small least tern rise from the rippling water, then noticed another and another.
