At least the things taken were replaceable… well, I guess except the tix.

Ugh, what a horrible situation. I’m so sorry about your tickets, and your wife’s beloved and expensive windbreaker. I assume the deductible on your car insurance doesn’t make claiming on it an option.

Oh, the loss of favourite items of practical clothing is awful. I once had a pair of lovingly-worn-in hiking boots stolen on a train journey, while I was sleeping and had removed them and hidden them (I thought) under the seat. So I sympathise.

May I suggest you not only have your friends and your dogs stay in the house while you’re away, but also invite more dogs – especially fierce ones – just in case the backpack-thieves try their luck.
